The Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program provides volunteer opportunities for people age 55 and older with a myriad of experience and interests from
all economic, educational, and social backgrounds to serve on a regular basis in a variety of settings throughout their communities. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program participants provide services that utilize their
own talents and interests, and present their communities with a rich array of options for addressing the full spectrum of
community needs. Volunteers serve part-time, for an average of two to four hours
per week, through a variety of local non-profit organizations, agencies, and institutions designed as volunteer stations.
Some of the many volunteer activities offered are: crime prevention
projects, disaster relief, tutoring respite and in-home care, substance abuse counseling, budget and tax assistance, telephone
reassurance, environmental surveys, home repairs and weatherizing, consulting services, adult basic education, mentoring,
center-based nutrition program, bereavement counseling, Meals on Wheels distribution, hospital volunteer service, intergenerational
projects, etc.
